Unless you already have a specific problem that you need dedicated UPS support to handle, you won't find a lot of use from calling this number. When I dialed, I was able to get to the automated system, but couldn't use it to actually request information.
I tried asking the system about how long it would take to deliver a package, but it took that to mean that I had an issue with delivery. Then, I asked about shipping rates, but the system was unable to understand what I was trying to ask about.
Finally I asked to speak to a representative, but the system told me it couldn't connect me with anyone unless it had more information about what I was calling about. I tried asking again, but the system absolutely refused to connect me with anyone unless I could give a firm reason as to what my issue was.
Next, I asked for location information so I could at least get something productive out of my call. The system asked me to provide a zip code, and once I did, it gave me the five closest UPS locations to that zip code, along with their hours of operation for that day. I then tried one more time to ask about shipping rates, but the system again said that it couldn't understand my inquiry, and I had no choice but to hang up.
Overall, I wasn't impressed by this system. It's fairly clear that UPS doesn't want people using this number unless they already have a support ticket in progress, but there should be at least some way to get information for services that UPS provides. Either offering a way to transfer numbers to a dedicated line for questions, having the system shoot you a link to the UPS website or having a part of the automated system dedicated to basic questions would be helpful.
Instead, if you don't ask for a specific problem, you're not going to get anywhere with it. You have the ability to ask the system just about anything, but it's not going to recognize most of the things you ask it. To get any use from this number, you need to have a genuine issue with a UPS service already in progress. Based on the automated system, however, I would hesitate before calling, as the system was not at all helpful and doesn't set high expectations for the customer experience.
